Course Overview:

This clinical diploma and degree programme is a three-year training in Advanced Person-Centred and Pluralistic Counselling. This modality of therapy values above all the inherent capacity of persons to flourish, and draw on their inner knowing as experts on their own experience. Person-centred pluralist practitioners value diversity, creativity, authenticity and warmth. The person-centred therapeutic relationship is a radical safe space in which external social conditions and expectations about how we are supposed to behave, are suspended, so that we can express who we are with genuineness. Pluralistic practitioners personalise therapy with their clients, co-creating each time, a unique way of working that meets the client in their personal needs and preferences.

This training will equip you to be a competent, ethical, trustworthy and confident practitioner. It will qualify you to work in a wide range of settings, from private practice through to healthcare and the voluntary sector. It is a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited training, meaning that you will be entitled automatically to professional registration upon graduation.

Course Philosophy:

This training embodies Person-Centred and Pluralistic values. We aspire to be a rich and diverse community, accessible to all. It is an experiential training, in which you will develop therapeutic presence, relational depth, and a compassionate way of being. The learning is co-produced between you, your peers, and your tutors. We recognise the enormous wisdom, abilities and experience that is brought by students. We also enjoy a blended learning approach, meaning that before each teaching weekend you will be sent a learning pack called a Rough Guide to the topic covered on the weekend. This pack will include readings, videos and reflective exercises that will help you to understand and think critically about the Unit topic. The weekend itself will be devoted to a range of rich and often enjoyable experiential and creative activities that will support you in integrating your knowledge, and relating it to your life and your practice.

Course Aims:

The programme aims to:

1. Provide wide access to study for students with suitable experience and qualities

2. Develop autonomous, able, ethical, and research-informed counsellors, who are highly employable in a wide range of settings

3. Encourage students to develop lifelong learning skills, as co-producers of learning, via a student-centred curriculum

4. Provide a safe and ethical framework to allow students to practise the advanced skills and develop the personal qualities of an advanced counsellor

5. Encourage and support students’ idiosyncratic creative expression, self-awareness, and reflexivity, via their personal development across the programme
